Colorado Friends of Old Time Music and Dance ("CFOOTMAD") is a Colorado non-profit corporation that promotes the evolving traditions of American music and dance. CFOOTMAD is dedicated to providing a safe, open, and inclusive experience for all participants at CFOOTMAD events. Participants should abide by the standards for expected behavior listed below. Dance coordinators and/or CFOOTMAD board members will enforce these standards at all CFOOTMAD events.
No form of harassment or discrimination against any person or organization based on age, race, sex, color, creed, religion, national origin, sexual orientation, transgender status, gender identity, gender expression, ancestry, marital status, gender, veteran status, military status, political service, affiliation or disability will be tolerated.
While a dance may feel fun and even flirtatious, that ends when the music does and we do not tolerate language or behavior that could be considered harassing, pursuing, or pestering.
At CFOOTMAD events, we expect all participants to be:
🌈 Inclusive
We ask a variety of people to dance; we share our pronouns as we're comfortable, use others' pronouns appropriately, and ask when unsure; we accommodate the individual needs of all dancers; we avoid wearing fragrances.
💖 Welcoming
We dance with whoever is coming at us regardless of their perceived gender identity; we respect personal and social boundaries and apologize when we inadvertently exceed a boundary or cause discomfort; we give ourselves and each other grace when we mess up, and we learn from those mistakes; we are kind and respectful to all.
🛡️ Safe
We prioritize consent and communication and ask our partners about flourishes and dips; we speak up and ask for help when something is uncomfortable or unsafe; we understand that anyone can say no at anytime without explanation; we know that a lead is an invitation and cannot be forceful; we stay aware of our partner, hands four, set, and the entire hall while dancing; we are sober and capable of exercising good judgement.
Attendance at any CFOOTMAD event indicates your agreement to comply with this Code of Conduct. Participants asked to stop inappropriate behavior are expected to comply immediately.
Participants are encouraged to contact a CFOOTMAD board member or dance coordinator if they notice that someone is behaving inappropriately or they have any other concerns. For in-person concerns, please note that our standard is to have two CFOOTMAD officials (board members and/or dance coordinators) present to ensure the concern is noted as accurately as possible.
Dance coordinators and CFOOTMAD board members recognize that every situation is different and some may require different processes including – but not limited to – mediation, coordinator / board discussion, expulsion from the event, and banning from future events.
CFOOTMAD board members are also available to help participants contact local law enforcement, provide escorts, or otherwise assist those experiencing harassment to feel safe for the duration of the CFOOTMAD event.
